Here is a compilation of rugged tech gear you probably won’t find on eBay. Not widely promoted, this Rugged Mobile Command Post showed up as a Google email news alert for the term “Rugged Notebooks”. Designed for emergency telecommunications, it also would double nicely for any business that has to go remote. Read this brief description and then follow the link to a Scribd pdf document for the scoop on the full specifications, features and availability.

RNB Mobile Command Unit
The Mobile Communications Unit (MCU) allows remote wireless connectivity to the Internet. The MCU provides Internet service via cellular (WWAN) and satellite phone services.
Public Safety First Responders can establish a connection by simply opening the case and turning on the power. The MCU will automatically establish a WWAN connection. No additional operator intervention is required.
Wireless devices communicate with the MCU via the kit integrated Junxion Box™. This commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) Linux device provides a gateway service for devices employing the 802.11 protocol. An Iridium™ satellite phone provides backup communications capability. A remote user can launch a PC based program which automatically dials the satellite phone, should the WWAN connection be lost or interrupted.
Once a connection is established, the wireless gateway is forwarded to the rugged portable computer, and all data is routed through the satellite phone.
